Adrenal Gland Treatment
Robotic adrenalectomy is a sophisticated, complex adrenal gland surgery and it is very important that an experienced surgeon performs this surgery to avoid major complications.
Once the anesthesia is done, and patient positioned, three micro cuts (3mm each) are made in the patient’s abdomen.
The arms of the Da Vinci robot are connected to the cuts via ports (tubes).
Dr. Ramani, the expert robotic surgeon, then sits in the controlling console to perform the surgery.
On an average, a robotic adrenalectomy takes one hour.
The adrenal gland surgery is almost completely bloodless and there has never been any need to transfuse blood after surgery.
A urine catheter and bag to drain the bladder is inserted during surgery.
A tiny drain pipe may be inserted in the surgical side of the abdomen, connected to a bag.
Patient is kept nil-by-mouth the day of the surgery, with IV fluids. Sips of water are started the next day and solid food by day three.
The drain pipe, if kept, is removed in the room on day 2 after adrenal gland surgery.
The catheter is removed on day two after surgery.
The total hospital stay for robotic adrenalectomy is 4 nights (including the night before surgery).
Post discharge, a doctor from the surgical team visits the patient at home/ hotel room once every day.
Return To Activity
On the day of discharge, patient is totally self-sufficient. They are able to walk freely without any pain, dress themselves, shower, toilet and they do not need to hire any nurse or help at home. Almost all patients are back to work within 2 weeks of surgery.
Heavy activities like running, weight lifting can be resumed after a month
Follow Up After Adrenal Gland Surgery
Follow up after an adrenalectomy is in the form of CT scans, once a year for 5 years.
Local patients usually meet Dr. Ramani after two weeks to discuss report.Outstation patients are counselled on a phone consultation.
FAQs on Adrenal Gland Surgery & Treatment
How is Adrenal Gland Treatment Managed in India?
Adrenal gland treatment in India includes a range of options from surgical to non-surgical interventions. Robotic adrenalectomy, performed by experienced surgeons like Dr. Ramani, is a sophisticated approach that ensures minimal invasiveness and optimal precision. In addition to surgery, patients may receive follow-up care involving CT scans and regular check-ups to monitor recovery and ensure long-term health.
India’s healthcare system is known for its advanced medical technologies and skilled professionals, providing effective adrenal gland treatment and care. Dr. Ramani’s practice exemplifies the high standards of care available in India.
What Makes Dr. Ramani a Leading Robotic Adrenalectomy Surgeon in Mumbai?
Dr. Ramani’s reputation as a leading robotic adrenalectomy surgeon in Mumbai is built on his extensive experience and expertise in minimal invasive surgery. His proficiency with the Da Vinci robotic system allows him to perform complex adrenal gland surgeries with remarkable precision and minimal invasiveness. Dr. Ramani’s track record of successful outcomes and his dedication to patient care are key factors that distinguish him in the field.
His practice is known for providing high-quality care, from initial consultation through to post-operative follow-up. Patients benefit from his comprehensive approach, which includes personalized treatment plans and ongoing support to ensure optimal recovery and health.
What Are the Benefits of Robotic Adrenalectomy Compared to Traditional Surgery?
Robotic Adrenalectomy offers several advantages over traditional open surgery. The use of the Da Vinci robotic system allows for smaller incisions, which results in less post-operative pain, reduced scarring, and a faster recovery time. The precision of robotic surgery also minimizes the risk of complications and enhances the overall outcome of the procedure.
Patients typically experience a quicker return to daily activities and a shorter hospital stay. Additionally, the reduced need for blood transfusions and the almost bloodless nature of the surgery contribute to a lower risk of post-operative complications.
How is Post-Operative Care Managed After Adrenal Gland Surgery?
Post-operative care after adrenal gland surgery is crucial for a successful recovery. Following a robotic Adrenalectomy, patients are usually kept nil-by-mouth on the day of surgery and start with IV fluids. By the next day, they can sip water, and solid food is reintroduced by day three. A drain pipe, if used, is typically removed on the second day, and the catheter is removed shortly thereafter.
Patients are visited daily by a member of the surgical team for ongoing care and support. This continuous monitoring helps ensure proper recovery and addresses any concerns that may arise during the post-operative period.
How Does Robotic Adrenalectomy Compare with Other Adrenal Gland Treatments in India?
Robotic Adrenalectomy is a leading treatment option for adrenal gland conditions, offering significant benefits over other methods. Compared to traditional open surgery or laparoscopic approaches, robotic Adrenalectomy provides enhanced precision, reduced invasiveness, and quicker recovery.
In India, where advanced medical technologies and skilled surgeons are available, robotic Adrenalectomy represents a cutting-edge approach to adrenal gland surgery. Dr. Ramani’s practice exemplifies the high standards of care and innovation that define top-tier adrenal gland treatment in the country.
